Young Member Activities

One of the roles of the Vanguard Committee is to make sure that IXA 2019 becomes a memorable and wonderful experience for every trainee in attendance. Here is an overview of what the Vanguard Committee has planned.

TWO ON MENTORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES DURING THE WELCOME RECEPTION

October 10 | 19:00-21:00

We have set aside a dedicated area at the venue where mentees and mentors can meet during the Welcome Reception. IXA councilors and other well-established professionals in the field will offer 15-20 minutes of their time to meet with trainees one-on-one. This is a fantastic opportunity to get some hands-on career advice. Come prepared with your questions to get the most out of it. We are sure that you will feel inspired.

“ASK YOUR BURNING QUESTIONS” CAREER DEVELOPMENT LUNCH SESSION

October 11 | 12:30-13:30

This activity is an open discussion forum led by Chris Burlak, Wayne Hawthorne, Andrea Bähr and Rita Bottino and is open to trainees of all levels. Discussions will include how to manage a post-doc career, publishing successful manuscripts etc.

October 11 | 15:40-16:40
The top abstracts that were submitted by trainees will be presented in this session. Congratulations if your abstract was selected and if it wasn’t, please cheer on your student colleagues.

CONGRESS DINNER AT A SUBSIDIZED RESERVATION FEE

October 12 | 19:30-23:00
We know that networking with established scientists is an important part of attending any conference. Rather than offering a stand-alone YI event, the Organizing Committee and IXA council have opted to offer a heavily subsidized registration fee for the Congress Dinner ticket at only $35 US. Attending the Congress Dinner, which is taking place in a very relaxed and fun setting at Germany’s most famous beer hall “Hofbräuhaus”, will offer great networking opportunities.
